Reigning world champion Max Verstappen was eliminated from the Austrian Grand Prix due to a collision with Andrea Kimi Antonelli on the opening lap. Antonelli, starting ninth, missed his braking point and crashed into Verstappen at Turn 3. Both drivers were knocked out of the race with terminal car damage. Lando Norris defended his pole position successfully after the safety car restart, with Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc following. Lewis Hamilton fought for fourth place against George Russell in the second Mercedes. Antonelli may face a grid drop at the upcoming British Grand Prix as FIA race stewards will investigate the incident.
